Crowns & Bridges
Designed to seamlessly blend with your natural teeth, crowns and bridges go beyond mere tooth replacement, delivering a level of comfort and functionality that closely mirrors your original dental structure.
A dental crown is used when a tooth is severely damaged or broken due to decay or an injury. On the other hand, a dental bridge consists of two or more connected dental crowns used to replace one or more missing teeth.
The material used for dental crowns can vary. Some materials, like metal, zirconia, and porcelain, are designed to blend in with your natural teeth. Others, like gold, are more durable but may be more noticeable when you smile widely. Gold crowns are stronger and less likely to chip, but they may not provide the same cosmetic appearance.
When placing crowns on front teeth, most patients prefer the crown to match the shape and color of their natural teeth for a seamless smile. If a patient desires a whiter smile, a teeth whitening treatment can be done before matching the crowns and bridges to the new shade. It's important to note that once crowns and bridges are permanently placed, they cannot be whitened.
Both crowns and bridges restore the function of damaged or missing teeth. They are excellent solutions for teeth that are weak, at risk of fracturing, or have been lost.
A dental crown is like a protective cap that covers a damaged tooth, restoring its strength and function. It can also be used with a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
To place a crown, your Sinanak Clinic’s dentist will first assess the condition of the tooth. If the damage is not too severe, a crown can be used to save the tooth. However, if the damage is extensive, the tooth may need to be extracted. After evaluating the tooth, it will be prepared by removing a small amount of its structure to create a stable base for the crown.
An impression of the prepared tooth will be taken to create a custom-made crown at a dental laboratory. In the meantime, a temporary crown will be placed to protect the tooth. Once the permanent crown is ready, it will be securely attached to the tooth using a special dental adhesive.
The crown will blend in with your natural teeth, providing a strong and durable covering. It will restore the appearance, strength, and function of the tooth, allowing you to bite and chew comfortably. With proper care and regular dental check-ups, a crown can last for many years, ensuring the longevity of your smile.
A dental bridge is a type of dental prosthesis that consists of one or more artificial teeth, depending on the number of missing teeth, connected between two crowns. It is used when there is insufficient bone or space for a dental implant or when the adjacent teeth require crowns due to damage.
Typically, dentists prefer using implants to replace missing teeth instead of preparing the neighboring teeth and removing healthy tooth structure. However, in cases where implants are not feasible, a dental bridge can be a suitable option.
To create a bridge, the teeth adjacent to the gap are prepared and fitted with crowns. These crowns serve as anchors for the artificial tooth/teeth that fill the space. The artificial tooth/teeth rests comfortably on the gums and completes the bridge.
Alternatively, a dental bridge can also be supported by dental implants. In this case, the implants serve as the anchoring teeth, providing stability and support for the bridge.
By replacing missing teeth, a dental bridge restores your ability to bite and chew properly, improves your smile's appearance, and prevents adjacent teeth from shifting. It is important to maintain proper oral care and schedule regular check-ups to ensure the longevity and health of your dental bridge.
